Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja has urged Ugandans to overwhelmingly vote for President Museveni in the upcoming general elections, saying the long-serving leader remains the backbone of the country’s development.
Speaking in Gomba District, Nabbanja cautioned voters against making what she described as a costly mistake at the ballot box on 15 January next year, and encouraged residents to turn up in large numbers at Nsambwe to welcome President Museveni, whom she described as their “resident.”
“People of Gomba, I want to inform you that President Museveni is the backbone of Uganda’s development. That is why every Ugandan is obliged to vote for Museveni, whether NRM or not, because the President has programmes aimed at transforming the lives of Ugandans,” Nabbanja said.
She cited government initiatives such as the Parish Development Model (PDM) and Emyooga as key reasons for supporting Museveni, arguing that these programmes benefit all Ugandans regardless of political affiliation.
“When PDM funds are released, don’t NUP supporters also benefit? We do not discriminate. Everyone receives the money, and in some cases, those who do not support NRM even get more than us,” she said.
Nabbanja said the National Resistance Movement (NRM) and President Museveni stand on four pillars, starting with national ideology, and warned against individuals she accused of pretending to be patriots while undermining the President’s leadership.
She highlighted social and economic transformation through infrastructure development, including roads, schools, health facilities, water, and other essential services, noting that Gomba District has benefited significantly since Museveni came to power.
Nabbanja also praised Museveni for strengthening democracy, stating that while some of his opponents focus on personal attacks or internal party interests, the President remains the only leader with a clear vision for Uganda’s future.
She urged residents not to stay home on 23 January, reiterating that Museveni is “their own resident.”
“Museveni is your resident. People from other regions will support you, but remember, the owner of the corpse knows where to hold it,” Nabbanja said.
Her remarks come as NRM leaders in Gomba intensify preparations to welcome President Museveni at Nsambwe playground on the 23rd, where he is expected to address residents and solicit votes.
Meanwhile, Gomba District Youth Chairperson Yiga Kisakyamukama mobilised residents, particularly the youth aged between 18 and 35, to attend the event regardless of political affiliation.
“All youths of Gomba, whether you belong to NRM, NUP, FDC, or any other party, let us come and welcome President Museveni. On the 24th morning, the President has invited all Gomba youths to meet him at Kisozi,” Kisakyamukama said.
